I want to provide my users with a confirmation page, basically saying thankyou etc. It will also need to put the transaction details in the database.
When the return page is specified are all the form fields posted back to the page?
Thanks

It's best to update your database via the IPN. When using IPN, the "Continue" button converts to a POST which includes all the IPN fields. Patrick Breitenbach PayPal, Inc. Dev Net: https://www.paypal.com/pdn

Couldn't they also look into the 'rm' variable. Upon completion of the transaction the rm variable uses an html string to post the information to the thank you page. If you have a script set up on the thank you page it could read the same information from the header and provide it to the customer using a text field. I have not tested it but I believe that is the variables intention for use. Download one of the technical manuals here and review the rm variable and how to implement it. The 'rm' variable is a good addition to IPN, but if the customer does not continue to the final page, the Database does not get updated. With IPN the post happens once the customer Pays. Many things can prevent the customer from clicking the continue button, power out, boss walks in, spouse walks in, kids (too many to list), weather and so on.
