I've mostly completed the move to our new web site(below) and have just put up a free trial release of the Data Minion DSVE. This includes full PDF docs. The link is on the introduction page. DM can be used with the paypal forms replacement for buy-now buttons I had up on the old site (I'll get round to putting that on the new one ASAP - if you need it quickly PM me on my forum - not here) This provides automated cleaning securing and validating of all user input to your web site including Forums, all POST forms etc. I've also included the pForms Code generator to automate the process. This makes it easy to use for non programmers as all the coding is done for you. Availability of the trial software will be limited. Obtain Country From IP address - free PHP DM not required.

I've just uploaded a PHP file set you can use to identify the country
of origin of a caller to your web site from the IP address.
It will default to the first "forwarded for" address if proxies
are discovered in the remote server.
The latest database update at time of writing is 1 Aug. 2008.

It uses a mySql database so no remote or slow traceroute is required.
If you have PHP and mySQL and want to give it a go it's in
my library section.

It also returns a few other things like the range of allocated addresses the IP is within etc.

You should be able to just "include()" in existing PHP files.

OH I see -you're trying to filter words - - I recommend Data Minion - it will make your life easier - thats what its for.
