well,

some more research indicates that only US business accounts are eligible to use the DoDirectPayment API. we're able to use all the other APIs though.

*sigh*

too bad DoDirectPayment is the only one that's actually useful.

for any paypal folk lurking here - when will DoDirectPayment be available for australian business? any idea?

thanks,

em.

We don't have a specific timeline at this moment. This API is still relatively new as of this writing. Rollout to additional countries is dependant on a variety of factors including risk, legal and other considerations. I will be sure to forward your feedback.

hi cory

thanks for the reply.. it is appreciated.

two suggestions:

1. maybe paypal should make it super clear in the advertising materials that mention the API that *only US businesses* are able to use the most important API. i have spent 2 days now setting up the paypal stuff, reading forums, making slooow progress, only to find that it all works except the one API i really wanted.

talk about frustrating. talk about leaving a bad taste in my mouth about paypal. talk about bad PR.

2. of course, now i'm forced to go find another payment solution to replace the paypal system that's useless to me. that might take me another week or so. so, once i'm all set up, what are the chances that i'm going to abandon it and return to paypal when/if they decide to may that one API available to me?

i'd say the chances are low.

cheers

Hi em,
I'm in the US and have also spent days to set everything up... be assured, you're not missing out on anything yet. The whole thing is at best in alpha state although it's being advertised as a mature solution. Calls to paypal phone support take 50 min to get through and no help about the errors with directpayment.. too new.. no one knows about it... recommend reading the integration guide pdfs (which actually just touch the surface of theory a little but never really show you how to INTEGRATE)...

Just forget it and go with a real merchant account. Maybe in a year PayPal may have a *working* solution to offer !
