I am trying to get the core ideas and tools behind running IPN and PDT, but I do not have enough programing experience and knowledge to figure out how to set up the test and test code.

I have XAMPP set up on two in-house servers and a sandbox account. One I use for a pc and it runs XAMPP and Durpal (beginner levels).

No activity on the second machine right now. Both computers run under ubuntu 10.10.

From what I can understand, setting up a test is more than just pasting a piece of code on a "handler" server?

Where I am hung up, what to attach to the handler url on my second server.

Just the php code sample given?

Or do I have this right? The code needs to interact with a database? Have variables set to communicate with paypal?

Can I accomplish this with my two, or three, in-house machines?

Also, getting lost in how to set-up a "listener" if I need to do that?


I could use a set of basic instructions up a notch from the "for dummies" book and a bit down from the code.
