Passing user id to paypal and back again Options

Hi Folks,

I'm very new to PayPal development beyond a simple PayNow button. I need to implement a subscription button on one of my ASP.Net websites. I found a good example of a listener so I have that covered. The problem I have is how do I know who the transaction is for? On my website a user can create an account and then select the type of subscription button that supports the service they want: $1/month or $10/year to get gain access to the website. How does the listener know which of the user accounts on the website is associated with the payment/recurring payment?
