Just thought I would agree with the last point - according to a posting elsewhere (I did a google) eliteweaver's registration was renewed in 2005 and expires in 2007. Funny that - I thought he hadn't been involved in this for some time.

Only other references to a Marcus Cicero related to a blogger in the U.S. (Ours gives an address in Newcastle, U.K), and to a Roman who was murdered about 1900 years ago.

On the site I got his address from, (I think it's called GreenGoddess) it looks like they have download software, and some user found a link to eliteweaver?

hagenaer,

You said you didn't have a copy of the full script anyway, right? If you're trying to update it, perhaps it would benefit you to have a copy?? I could send you a zip archive with 1.7 full and the SP1 upgrade if you think it could be of use to you, though I imagine you might plan on rewriting the whole thing from scratch anyway.

If it's a simple solution, by all means, I'd welcome the input on fixing it...if it's something more severe, then I wouldn't want you to waste your time doing it as I can't afford to pay what a good programmer's worth (or even what a mediocre programmer's worth, really)...I'm trying to get my business off the ground on a starving artist's [non-existent] budget, and I've just about borrowed out my welcome with family.

If you would like me to send you the script, just tell me where to email it. At this point, I really don't care much about the license agreement as EW really doesn't deserve to have one anymore.

Otherwise, I'll probably be using static pages to sell my tangible items and sending my downloads manually after purchase until I can afford to hire somebody to create exactly what I want. I've been figuring out the best way to implement Paypal's built-in cart without having to manually add the buttons to every item (there will be many, many images for sale), and I think I'm going to incorporate it into the web export templates in my various imaging softwares...kinda klunky compared to a proper DB, but at least the website will load fast and use less bandwidth! ;)

csjwoodward,

Looks like you've done even more research than I have...For some reason, I didn't think to check the domain registration. I hadn't heard of the U.S. blogger, though, even though I'm in the U.S. This place is just too big to keep track of people, but as it would seem, even the U.K. is too big to keep track of one lone programmer dude like Marcus. Come to think of it, a tiny red flag did go off in my head back in 2003 when I last talked with Marcus via email...Seemed peculiar that he would have the same name as an infamous Roman philosopher (I think that's what he was), but I shrugged it off to coincidence at the time. My smarter half (I'm a gemini) tells me there are no coincidences in life...who knows?

Anyway, let me know if you'd like me to send you the script. Perhaps it does just need a quick tweak - that would be refreshing. ;)

I was gonna peak at your server and see what I could do there for you, if you would let me, but maybe a local copy is easier. I'm not actually updating his, I'm building my own, I don't want to create a does-it-all monster. I want something small and effective, and flexible.

I've started out with his free script, and some examples from paypal and paypaltech, but nothing of his code survived. My script now can connect using curl and libcurl, fsockopen post and get; it allows for ssl en unencrypted connections, and live and sandbox auto-switching (along with my own testing environment, once I've built that); it records IPNs and PDTs to MySQL and sends out e-mails confirming orders (or other statuses) and optionally creating an account and software download page, that tracks if a file has been partially downloaded (including how many download attempts) and if it has been completely downloaded (blocking subsequent downloads of that individual file, if a purchase included several files, others remain available) and maintains a history of previous purchases (a new purchase is added to the same download page). So I'm quite happy with that :D

Anyway, go to my profile (click on my name on the left) and send me an e-mail from there if you want me to have a look.

OK, I'll send you an email... Actually, the more I'm thinking about it, the more I'm wondering if I really need all those extra features anyway. I can always just use the regular Paypal cart for tangible sales, as those don't need anything but a confirmation email to be dynamic. I would like to be able to plugin to Paypal's subscription management system, though...the fewer things I have to manage myself on my server, the better...but I don't want a monthly fee sort of thing like payloadz.

I'm going to be writing my template code by hand and using RapidWeaver to generate my static web pages, so I need to be able to put my button codes where I choose rather than being forced into some pre-fabricated "webstore" mentality. Hopefully this makes sense to you.

Where do you have your script online? Is there a demo? How much does it cost? I suppose you could fill me in via email...I'll send you my script sometime this weekend...at the moment, my email is out of commission as I recently did a total system re-install.

Thanks again for all your replies! ;)
