Although PayPal advertises that this printer works with their shipping system...it does not. I keep getting a blank gray screen when I try to print using my 2844-z thermal printer...this is really ticking me off since I bought this printer for the sole purpose of printing shipping labels via PayPal's shipping service. I cannot say just how extremely frustrating this is. Is there anyone out there that can help. I talked with PayPal's tech support and he said I am not the only one having these issues with this printer...he also said that I am on a list of people having this same problem. The real problem is that the engineers have to get to it first...he couldn't give me an ETA for a fix...I could live with that, but then he went on to say that he is not even sure if it has been given high enough priority...therfore he said he was not even sure if the engineers were currently looking into it...now tell me if I am wrong here...but that seems to be TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE if you ask me. I mean come on...you are dealing with merchants that are paying you fees of roughly 3% per transaction plus $0.30 cents in addition to that for every transaction. The tech was really nice, but PayPal is really lagging here...I mean this just plain SUCKS...they advertise that it works and is compatible...but at the same time I am seeing JAVA SCRIPT ERRORS SAYING THAT THE lblBND ETC.CLASS ISN'T FOUND. THIS IS TERRIBLE! The printer simply does not work with PayPal's integrated shipping service as they claim it does...what the heck is the problem here folks??? -Signed Ticked In Indiana!

Hello,

It sounds more like an issue with the javascript that displays the label than an issue with the printer.

Are you able to see the label on your computer monitor? If so are you able to copy the image? If so are you able to paste it in a word doc? If so are you able to print it from there?

I will look into this issue for you, I will post an update when I have any new information on this issue.

When shipping with PayPal, you may use most laser printers for U.S. Postal Service labels or for UPS labels. You may also select from various Zebra label printers for printing sticky labels with U.S. Postal Service.

PayPal supports the following Zebra printers for USPS labels only:

Zebra LP2844-Z

Zebra TLP 3842

Zebra HT-147

Zebra TLP 3844 -Z

Please note: Thermal label printers are not supported for UPS at this time. We plan on integrating additional label printer makes, models, and paper sizes in the future.

Hello Stephen and Thanks for getting back with me...

It has to be a problem on the scripting side. I can't even see the image. It is just a large gray box. Otherwise I probably would go through the hassle of CTRL+C and then a CTRL+V in MS WORD.
But, unfortunately that is not the case. I can't figure it out at all. I have two printers. A Zebra LP2844 which works for UPS like a charm, and a Zebra LP2844-Z which is not working with PayPal worth a crap. Like I mentioned before, I can't even see an image just a gray box where the label should render.

Please keep me informed...and thanks in advance. I am losing a lot of time monkeying around with this problem.

Hello,

Just one last check, what browser and OS are you using?

Can you see other javascript and applets?

Hi Stephen:

I am using Windows XP PRO and IE 6.0
I can see other stuff yes...just not on PayPal's site for some reason. For instance...When I go to the USPS directly to print a label, I can see their JAVA and the label seems to come up fine.

Thanks for checking into this. You are currently the only who seems to care.

Thanks Again,
-Chris

I believe it has to be the Z - But, even my Z doesn't work. Some type of scripting error. And nobody at PayPal seems to care. It is really quite ridiculous.

Update --- 5 months after this post was started, and paypal still advertises a bunch of label printers that don't work with its service. Thousands of small business owners keep spending $400 on these printers to find out that they're useless with paypal. It's great! Way to go PayPal!

Do you have the proper drivers installed you may get some of them from UPS.com just search printer drivers.

Do you have the Java Applet installed?

My label printer works fine but PayPal needs to change the why it sends info to thermal printers.

This is old so I don't know if folks have figured it out yet. We were able to get the standard LP2844 to work as a either the 2844z of the TLP2844 on Paypal. After loading all of the Java Script, Yuck, you need to make the 2844 your default and it works. Hope no one minds us mentioning we have the 2844s from 200-$300 minor usage to new.

Hi, just wanted to let everyone know I use a LP 2844 with the LP2844-Z printer setting and I have Firefox 1.7 with java and I can print the USPS labels just fine. A screen pops up and I select the LP 2844 as my printer click save and then print label spits out with no problem. I see that the Paypal staff post that the Thermals are not compatiable with UPS... is there any idea when this will be available? Thanks.

I know this is an old post but it guided me somewhat to find the answers to getting this setup to work with the LP2884. Actually the different companies I tried to contact seem hesitant to provide you with information unless the printer is configured to their specs.
I have a UPS Zebra thermal printer and after being told several times it would only work with the UPS drivers I decided to spend two days trying to contact people, sent emails and nada. Finally I was able to get my thermal printer to work with the following labels,FEDEx Grnd & Express and PayPal/USPS which is what I needed.

First make sure you have the latest firmware in my case its now at V4.59. Download the firmware from Zebra and install using the parallel cable attached, in XP, Start > Run> type> CMD for DOS prompt. Then type > command > go to C:\ prompt.
Then Type in the path where the file was extracted too. IE.
"C:\copy C:\Zebra|firmware\2844_V4_59_STD.prg LPT1" then hit enter and wait for the printers front button to flash.

Second: Install the latest java from http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Then make sure you have the correct driver installed for the printer in my case I used both the generic and the UPS and they worked, as long as you set the printer speed to its lowest, then you will get some clean barcode prints.

I hope this helps someone and never take it can’t be done or no for an answer.

Use this information at your own risk, all I know is that it worked for us.

Ok I bought one from hippo deals the guy who posted earlier. It was the regular 2844 UPS. Ok its a nightmare to follow hippos instruction and their customer service is worse than pay-pals if you can believe that. Well anyway after having a friend who teaches about computers at college come over, he installed the drivers for the zebra 2844 ups. Hippo has there own way of down loading the driver which is contrary to the publisher. But he followed them closely. It took him 2 hrs and like I said he is an expert. I then loaded the java that was recommended (still)at paypal. The 2. version. Well that worked fine for a long while. Then all of a sudden started eroding alot with shut downs and the like. So I down loaded the latest version(of java) and everything is working fine.I followed the link from the other post. I think its important to remember to shut down after installing either version of java. Seems like everyone forgets to mention that. I was very frustrated with the first version not working the next day after my friend left. So I called him and he asked did you shut down the computer after installing java. No I had not it dont work until you do. I hope it works out for you guys. mine is running perfect now with the new version of java!

Yeah, no one said getting your Zebra printer to work would be easy...I am a rookie and it took me about two days to get it to work. Thats when I thought I should post my findings so that others would not have to suffer as much. I am happy to say that my Zebra UPS printer works for printing USPS, Fedex & Ground lables since my last post.
I love it, especially since I dont have to pay a third party software to print our stores shipping lables. You are correct dont forget to always reboot after installing any software, especially Java.

You saved me lots of time. I got one of the Hippo printers, too. The key is to use the parallel printer cable to load the firmware. The Zebra firmware loading utility does not work.

It took me 5 minutes to get things working.

Thanks,

My problem is the 2844 will print fine - except for the last 1" of label.
It cuts off and stops. It still has the top half of the bar code - so everything I've sent USPS has been getting there... Anyone have suggestions?

So I'm screwed if I dont have a parallel port on my computer?
I have a new Dell and it only has USB ports??

Lower the speed to about 2, the problem you are discribing happens when the printers speed is set to high. I have mine set at about 2 and this problem went away. Hope this helps.

Glad to be of help. Initially it took me a couple of days (my weekend) to get ours working and it was not fun but it was a learning experience! Funny thing is if you request help from Zebra or any of the couriers they are hesitant to help unless you use their service...that was my personal experience anyways.

Has anybody used the LP-2443 with Paypal by selecting the LP-2844z as the printer selection? The 2844 replaced the 2443 so it seems they would be basically the same printer.
