I have a question,
Is there any difference between a Donation Button and a Single Item Button?
Also, are there any reduction in fees for a non-profit orginization or anything? I'm confused, why can't PayPal just say 'use single items purchases to collect donations'?

There really should be. :( If I have a $1.00 donation button on my site I get to have $0.70 of it.. I think donations of a certain $ amount or less should really have some kind of exemption from the commission charges (or reduction). - Especially if the donation wasn't made by CC by the person donating. What I'm saying is PayPal should give us a break. If someone's sending a donation.. why not make it free of Paypal fees? Nothing major, because of course then we'd all just send everything as a donation but if the donation is 1.00 or less AND it's not being sent by credit card.. reduce the fee or discount it completely. If it's sent by credit card then of course, collect fees because I know you're being charged by the CC company. Likewise if it's over say $1.00 or $5.00 or something, charge the fee ... or if someone sends $1.00 then the same day tries to send another $1.00 .. charge the fee on the subsequent donations. This would prevent us from using the donation as a payment. Also if we're selling something for $15.00 it will prevent us from sending 15 seperate $1.00 donations. It'd be something for you to pass on for us. Donations of small amounts mean a lot to us.. but if we have to pay $.30 for them... they mean only 3/4 as much to us (for $1.00) ;) Huge Parrot/Avian Community http://aviary.infoClassified ads, articles, photos, calendar, leg band database + more!

Confirming wheather an organization is actually a nonprofit isn't very difficult. All 501(c)(3), tax-exempt, cheritable nonprofits have EIN numbers. You can confirm their status with the IRS by going to www.irs.gov, or on www.guidestar.org.
