I am using IPN in my payment scheme. If I use a credit card to do a live test to make sure my scripts all work, and then back out my credit card charges, as suggested by the PayPal directions, will the business account of my client then have incurred a transaction cost for the test?

Refunds credit back all fees so testing is costless.

You can avoid test payments charging a card by sending money to your test buyer account. You can do transactions as small as $0.01.

Please excuse my ignorance, but how do I "send money to my test buyer account?"
Thanks for any assistance.

The PayPal 'Refund' link allows the recipient of a payment to refund the payment within the first 30 days of receiving the payment. All fees from the original transaction will be refunded, based on the currency of the original payment.

To send a Refund:

Click https://www.paypal.com/HISTORY or copy and paste the entire link into the address bar
Locate the transaction to be refunded and click on the entry for that transaction in the 'Status' column. Only payments with a status of completed, pending, uncleared or cleared can be refunded
Click the 'Refund Payment' link at the bottom of the page
Review the details of the refund transaction
Click the 'Process Refund' link on the Transaction Details page to send the refund or 'Cancel' to end the refund process
Once the refund has been completed, it will post as a separate transaction and can be viewed in the recent activity or in the History transaction log

The 'Refund' link will not be available after 30 days. The funds can still be returned using the Send Money feature, however fees from the original payment will not be reimbursed.

The 'Refund' feature is free and is available to all recipients of a payment.
