I'd like to use IPN to help automatically settle my eBay auctions. I have all of the auction details in my database, and would like to get the buyer's name, address, etc., from the IPN details once they've paid. Here's the question: If a buyer clicks on the big "Pay Now" button at the top of a closed eBay auction, what auction details are sent via IPN, and in which fields? Second question: If I use a "notify_url" field in a web accept button, will that URL be the _only_ place the IPN info is sent, ignoring the IPN information set in my account? Thanks, John

If you have a Notification URL set up in your Profile, you will be IPNed for all received payments, including if the buyer clicks on a PayPal pay button at eBay. Unfortunately, none of the auction-specific details are transmitted in the IPN so what you propose may not be possible.

"notify_url" will only over-ride a Profile Notification URL for that specific transaction.

Patrick,

I really appreciate the prompt reply!!

It sounds like "notify_url" works exactly as I'd like it to work. However, I'm disappointed that IPN doesn't send the auction number in either the "invoice" or "item number" field.

The PayPal Checkout information at eBay shows that the Item Name is collected, as well as the buyer's eBay ID. Are either of these values passed through IPN? Even though they wouldn't be a perfect way to match up payments to auctions, they might help us do some of the manual work.

Thanks again,
John

I'm pretty sure none of the auction information is included. You might set up a Notification URL and create a simple script to log the IPN and see what's included.
